ABOUT UNIFY PORTLAND

Dear Nathaniel,

Thanks so much for the opportunity to partner with Unify and the Restorative Justice Group at Donald E. Long this term. Capstone students had a wonterful term; they learned so much and were profuoundly moved and changed by the experience. They all had great things to say about your leadership and your with with the youth; I am including just a few student comments below. Again, it has been a pleasure, and I hope you can continue these groups long into the future. Thanks for your great work in the world.

Over the course of the term, Nathaniel would explore many important topics for the kids. Though each lesson was designed for them, the topics of discussion would require even the adults present to ponder. It was during these lessons that I found myself really connected to the other kids of the group and at times would forget where I was...The exchanges between the kids and the depth of these conversations were approaching levels of philosophical inquiry. Each of us was asked to examine who we were and the why behind out actions. I think I will have to agree with Nathaniel, that responsibility starts when you know who you are.

Nathaniel arrives along with his partner Gary. The close bond they have is immediately apparent. The begin preparation for the workshop as several of the kids begin to make their way in. It is great seeing how excited each one is to see Nathaniel and Gary. You can really tell they love this group.
