Outside the Box
Children are not likely to prepare for a career they don’t know exist or that are attainable.
Many in the African American community are underexposed to career options. Outside the Box is a program aimed to expose African Americans, gang impacted youth, and formerly incarcerated African American to careers and the option of being business owners.
Mentorship
Unify Portland objectives are to unify marginalized communities, eliminate disparities of black and brown youth in the justice system, reduce the recidivism rates for black and brown youth, and reduce violence in demographical areas.

We do this by, providing mentor services for the overrepresented black and brown youth in the Juvenile Justice system, and using basic restorative practices. We also focus on the whole child in hopes to get the youth to make better choices. We provide opportunity for these youth to have their voices heard, while providing an intentional sustainable relationship that will lead to youth making exceptional life changing choices.
The Barbershop Experience
Unify Portland, along with local barbers and beauticians, has united to provide scholarships for Portland's youth (K-8) to receive free haircuts. This will help connect the youth to successful businessmen and women, help build relationships, receive mentorship, encouragement and accountability.
The Summerworks Program
Throughout the summer, these young men have helped serve the community by doing yard work and cleaning the grounds around Portland. They have learned how to properly introduce themselves in different settings, make eye contact, and firmly shake hands. Most importantly, they learned to be confident and initiate the introduction. "Don't wait initiate" was the slogan!
